Ode & The Bebops

Trained as a cabinet maker with a love for wood developed by spending most of his childhood in Savernake Forest. He is the lead singer and plays (well try's say all the other band members) banjo. He can also play the guitar - like his father who played both instruments. His infectious smile, humour and wit wins over audiences. He has a laid back approach to life which suits his Wiltshire accent! Very often he produces a mind boggling footwork action, whilst playing - get the video and see for yourself!

He is the most musical member, playing an exciting array of riffs from a repertoire grown from playing with numerous bands. He has
several guitars, however he still uses the original acoustic one for the band - now over 20 years old! He has also played drums together with his brother - encouraged by their father who was an accomplished drummer. He has been influenced by Roy Harper, Crosby Stills, Nash Young and Swindon's own XTC. His pastimes include skateboarding and surfing. Gareth coined the famous saying on the single "Too Many People" - "It's alright though init"

When Sid left, Doris took up playing the bass - he was already attending gigs as the sound engineer, due to his interest in music systems and gadgets! "Getting the band to sound good is a challenge" says Doris. His main music influence is Metallica and most heavy metal bands. He is also learning to play the drums, & also is the sound engineer for a Swindon based rock band called ' Shred'. People think the tea chest bass is easy to play - Doris will let people try - they are always surprised at how physical an instrument it is to play - turn up and try for yourself!

Washboard player extraordinaire! Over the years he has worn out two washboards, however the current one is steel and surviving. The noise generated is rasp & raw - which annoys the other band members. His collection of washboards include glass, zinc, brass and wood, all are different. The band acquired his nickname Ode when Bone left. Hobbies include beekeeping, homebrewing and keeping chickens. Musical influences include Blues Brothers, Adge Cutler; The Wurzels and Pink Floyd. Like John, he has a lively dance routine that amazes the audience - and he has a unique way of playing the tambourine - turn up to a gig to see it!
